Surrey – A local resident’s generous donation has doubled thanks to the BC Arts Renaissance Fund, which provides matching grants to leverage additional donations and build endowment funds held for arts and culture organizations in British Columbia.
The donor, and former Surrey Museum curator, Doug Hooser, created an endowment fund through the Surrey Foundation to raise money for the Surrey Museum. In an effort to build the endowment fund, the Foundation worked with the Friends of the Surrey Museum and Archives Society to obtain matched funds from the BC Arts Renaissance Fund.
“The Surrey Foundation is thrilled with Mr. Hooser’s generosity and the opportunity to double his donation through the BC Arts Renaissance Fund” said Dan Effa, Surrey Foundation President. “The Fund will contribute to the long-term sustainability of arts and culture organizations in our city and we hope to encourage others to consider this matching program when making future contributions to the Surrey Foundation.”
The BC Arts Renaissance Fund, which was established in March 2005 through a grant of $25 million from the Province of British Columbia, is administered by the Vancouver Foundation. The Fund matched Hooser’s $21,000 donation to the Surrey Foundation’s Friends of the Surrey Museum Endowment Fund, bringing the total contribution to $42,000. Income generated from the capital of this fund will provide the Friends of the Surrey Museum and Archives Society with annual revenues to ensure on-going financial sustainability.
