Surrey – Surrey Foundation has been given a vote of confidence this week following the receipt of $450,000 from SRS Vocational Services Society (additional funds to follow shortly). SRS Vocational Services Society, a local charitable society who wound up operations in 2005, selected the Foundation to administer its remaining funds and continue its legacy of assistance within the community.
“The Surrey Foundation is thrilled to have the support of SRS Vocational Services Society and is committed to helping others on their behalf,” says Dan Effa, Surrey Foundation President. “This is a key reason community foundations exist, to act as the broker for financial support to targeted causes, and to match the resources available with the needs of the community.”
The Foundation established the SRS Vocational Rehabilitation Fund to focus on assisting individuals with special needs integrate into the workforce.
“We’re delighted the legacy of SRS Vocational Services and the hard work of many staff and board members will live on through the Surrey Foundation, “says Rick Pallen, Vice President, Advisory Services for PricewaterhouseCoopers. “The new fund, held in perpetuity by the Foundation, can be added to by other donors with similar charitable objectives and will continue to help individuals with special needs join the workforce.”
For over 30 years, SRS Vocational Services Society provided a wide range of employment programs for adults with special needs in Surrey. Services included career planning, pre-employability skills training, job placement, on-the-job support, and employment maintenance.
The Surrey Foundation is a non-governmental community foundation that allows individuals and businesses to build their own legacy in various areas of interest for the benefit of Surrey. The Foundation accepts donations and endowment gifts to hold in trust and invest for the citizens of Surrey. The Foundation supports community needs, responds to local issues or concerns, and encourages initiatives that provide opportunities to improve the welfare of our community and its residents.
