Darts Hill Garden Park Community Fund
In 1994, Edwin and Francisca Darts donated their estate to the City of Surrey, intending the gardens to be a horticultural centre for the preservation, enhancement and development of plants. Darts Hill consists of 7.5 acres of horticultural richness without equal in North America for its variety of rare and precious plants, shrubs and trees which have been developed over the past 55 years. The gardens are contained within a larger 22 acre park site.
City of Surrey Partnership – the City has worked directly with Mrs. Darts in the development of a Purpose, Vision and Overall Guiding Principles for the garden, in order to ensure that the garden will continue to be managed in the future in accordance with her wishes. Mrs. Darts’ concept for the garden has been set out in the City’s Darts Hill Garden Park Policy, which will be the cornerstone of all development and management in and around the garden. Although not currently open to the public, the garden is available for tour bookings and, in the future, will be accessible by all. The City has built on the Darts lifetime of work on the garden by setting up the framework for a Native Plant Garden.
Surrey Foundation Partnership – in December 2000, Mrs. Darts established the “Darts Hill Garden Park Community Fund” to provide assistance from the Foundation in handling and receipting donations to assist the Garden. The income derived from the permanent endowment will eventually provide the basis of sustaining funds to cover the operating and capital needs of the Garden.
